International Coastal Cleanup

Our Crew will be in charge of North Beach Community Park, 1100 North Atlantic Avenue, Sapphire Road beach access. Volunteers will spread out and take on areas of the beach, the parking lot, the park (walkway and pavilion) and beachside streets. Cleanup begins at 8 AM and ends by 11 AM. Volunteers usually work about an hour. Parking may become limited so carpooling and arriving early are suggested. Volunteers should bring their own cleaning equipment (bag or bucket and garden gloves or a trash grabber). We will have some equipment on hand for those who need to borrow. Everyone should be be in charge of their own hydration and we can refill reusable water bottles. Sunscreen, close-toed shoes, a cap, and sunglasses are suggested.

During the event we will use Ocean Conservancy’s CleanSwell mobile app to track found items. There will also be a paper tally available. Over 100 countries participate in the ICC, so it truly is an international effort. Findings are important. For instance, in 2019 food wrappers for candy, chips, etc., outnumbered cigarette butts for the first time since the beginning of the ICC some 30 years ago.
